Saturday 11 February 2017
I woke up with a fizzy feeling in the side of my face. I think nothing of it, go for a run and carry on with the rest of the day. It feels weird but hey, that’s life sometimes and maybe it means I must have drunk too much rum.
Sunday 12 February
I have a coached session booked on Lee Valley Whitewater Course. My face is fizzing and that feeling is at eye level now but hey, I’m still walking and talking and so load up a van with boats and off we toddle, with fizzy face woman driving. However, I know now that it can’t be the rum from Friday. I have almost 3 hours booked on the water but even on the simplest part of the course I’m upside down, time after time, after time. This is frustrating, and exhausting, where’s my balance gone.
In the end I get off the water early, it’s not fun and I’m getting beaten up by the water.Every time I’m in I can’t tell if i’m up or down. Urggh. So much more exhausting than usual, which is exhausting, and there are still the boats to load and drive home.
Could this be a really bad reaction to rum?
I put it down to a bad day, we all have them, and drive home.
Monday 13 February
Into work and busy as ever. I mention my fizzy face and lack of balance to colleagues and am dispatched to a GP, who is quite obviously thinking stroke and I’m given a referral to a neurologist. Ok its sounding kind of serious… but it can’t be.
I do the day at work and then head onto the neurologist – yes I have just arranged the appointment for after work because it can’t be serious. This appointments a bit of blur and I’m still thinking its nothing serious until we get to the need for an immediate MRI. At least this chap has ruled out a stroke! Now some alarms are starting to ring as I know its not normal to be sent for an MRI at 6.45pm. After getting immediate authorisation from the medical insurers, we’re off.
That’s a fun way to spend an evening. Choose your music and then lay back for 45 minutes listening to the machine clunk. As I leave I am handed a CD of the scan to bring to my next appointment. I love pictures of the insides of people – should have been a doctor
love this Sarah!
